OUR HIGH IDEALS
In Alpha Phi we live by 4 high ideals: innovation, character, generosity & sisterhood. These are the ideals that guide every sister in every chapter & in Iota Omicron we strive to embody these ideals every day.
Innovation
Innovation is one of the most important values to our chapter. We provide many opportunities for academic success to our sisters including weekly study hours, destress event each term & incentives for sisters who achieve academic excellence. We are so proud to have a chapter full of dedicated scholars!
Our sister Hannah did incredible & inspiring work with her IQP team 3D printing personal protective equipment (PPE) to help combat the lack of these essential supplies in our community. In April 2020, she was able to donate 3D printed face shields, ear guards & other PPE to a COVID-19 clinic in Worcester for the homeless, as clinics like this have a more difficult time obtaining supplies. She worked directly with several doctors & other medical professionals, staying up to date on the statistics & trends of this pandemic to maintain the supplies. She said that this has been such a fulfilling & eye opening experience. As these unprecedented times took an emotional toll on us all, what really upset her were the stories and pictures of healthcare workers who didn’t have access to PPE. We are appreciative of all the first responders & medical personnel who worked on the frontlines of this global crisis.
Character
Character is an incredibly important value to Alpha Phi. We strive every day to become the women that will lead the world. As one of the few women only groups on campus we are able to foster a culture of self betterment & growth, & provide our newest members with 100 inspiring women to look up to. Ask any sister & they will tell you that Alpha Phi is one of the main reasons they have the leadership skills they do.
“My favorite ideal is probably character (even though innovation, generosity and sisterhood are all important) I think it is important to encompass all of those in your character. Being someone who is self aware, conscious of other people & giving are things that I’ve really been working on lately & Alpha Phi’s ideals really sum up the person I’m (at least trying) to be. Character is all about self growth. Here at WPI innovation is very emphasized, but it is so important to remember that includes innovation with your sisterhood & friendships, generosity towards others & building your overall character. A few ways I try to do this is simply by listening to other people and their opinions & having/evolving my own to make myself stronger. Being a Biomedical (with a heavy interest in biology) student during this time has also allowed me to express our ideals, in both being compassionate, but also thinking & wanting to be a part of the team that fights back to make our planet healthy again.”

Sisterhood
Sisterhood is a value that we in Alpha Phi hold close to our hearts. The bond that we share with each & every member of our chapter is something you won't find anywhere else. Our sisters are our biggest supporters & closest confidants. They are the people we love and trust the most.
“All growing up I had my sister by my side. Starting college in the midst of a pandemic was a little unnerving since I would not have my sister easily available all the time. Joining Alpha Phi has helped me through that because it has given me even more sisters to help me integrate into the WPI community. I am very excited to continue growing within my new sisterhood here at WPI over my next two years!”

Generosity
Generosity is one of the values we stick closest to in Alpha Phi. Our sister participate in countless community service projects every year, both individually & as a group. We participate in the Work on Worcester project in the fall, as well as tutoring and working with kids at local elementary schools! We are so proud to be a chapter that focuses so much on helping the community we love!
